9 min 3 quiz questions Grade 2
Fact or Opinion?

"The Eiffel Tower is in Paris." — Fact! It can be checked. "The Eiffel Tower is the most beautiful building in the world." — Opinion! Not everyone agrees.

What Is a Fact?

A fact is a statement that can be proven true or false. Facts do not change based on who is asking. "Water boils at 100°C at sea level" is a fact — you can test it.

Fact:A statement that can be proven true or false through evidence or observation.

What Is an Opinion?

An opinion is a personal belief or judgment. It reflects what someone thinks or feels, not a provable truth. "Pizza is the best food" is an opinion — not everyone agrees, and it cannot be proven.

Opinion:A personal belief or judgment that reflects what someone thinks or feels.

Clue Words for Opinions

  • "I think...", "I believe...", "In my opinion..."
  • "The best...", "The worst...", "The most..."
  • "Should", "ought to", "must"
  • Words like "beautiful," "terrible," "amazing" (when used as judgments)
Can You Prove It?

Ask yourself: "Can this be tested or checked?" If yes, it is probably a fact. If it depends on personal feelings, it is probably an opinion.
