This paper explores whether learning requires transference to be valid. While theorists like Piaget, Perkins, and Bransford suggest transfer enhances deep learning, research shows learning can occur without it. However, transfer remains the clearest sign of flexible, applicable knowledge. Recent studies emphasize metacognition, contextual learning, and intentional instructional design as key to promoting transfer.
